Jennifer Garner is a West Virginia native who was born in Houston on 17 April 1972. William John Garner worked as a chemist for Union Carbide. Patricia Ann Garner, the mother of Patricia Ann, taught at the local college. Wanting to follow the footsteps of her father, she graduated with an engineering degree in chemical technology. Because she wished to become an actress she went on a trip to New York. She worked at a restaurant as well as appearing in Broadway productions. She played a minor role in the film "Felicity" (where it was that she also came into contact with Scott Foley). Garner received her first break by the action-thriller "Alias." The actress's debut lead role was in the acclaimed romantic comedy "13 Going on 30." Garner played a teenage girl trapped in a 30 year old body. Garner picked Gary Winick for the role as director. The two continued working together on other projects up until Winick died in 2011. Garner has been designated as an ambassador for artists with Save the Children U.S.A. for 2009, played an important role within the organization. This includes the advancement of the importance of nutrition, literacy and early education. In 2014, Garner has been a member of the trustees' board of this organization, pushing for early learning for children. She is an ambassador and often meets with families who are part of the group's Early Steps to School Success program that guides families on how to help young children develop.
